Anyone who wants to learn the fundamentals of curling strategy

Fundamentals of strategy. When to be risk on and risk off. What this looks like. Sample shot selection. Watch a couple ends of some club games

Strategy 2 (off ice)

 

>2 league years, and completion of strategy 1 (or equivalent)

Building an end using the framework of strategy 1, shot outcomes, shot tolerance, shot difficulty scale, when to pivot to a new plan. Watch some club championship games

Ice reading 1 (off ice)

 

>1 league year and a basic understanding of the ice surface

Ice reading from a skip and sweeper perspective. Some insights into the shape of the surface and how the ice changes during a game

Sweeping & communication (on ice)

Technical sweeping form including live demos and video analysis. How to communicate a shot on the ice as a sweeper, thrower, and skip.

Utilize the principles of the strategy clinics on ice in a practice game against another team. Pre-end planning done with both teams.

About The Club

The Langley Curling Club is a not-for-profit organization operating in a facility managed and owned by the Township of Langley. The George Preston Recreation Centre located at 20699 42 Ave in Brookswood houses the curling rink on the south side and a hockey rink on the North side; home to the Langley Riverman and Trappers.  Manager Robyn Parkes along with the Board of Directors and our many volunteers are here to serve Langley and outlying areas with quality curling, events and a top of line Pro Shop.
